  • Formed in 2017, the Seacoast Interfaith Sanctuary Coalition (SISC) is a coalition of nine faith communities and friends in the community, who are working together to support people facing the threats of immigration detention and deportation.

  • We create Sanctuary – a place of safety and support – for people facing an imminent threat of detention and/or deportation.

We provide shelter and support for immigrants just released from detention whose futures are still uncertain.

We educate ourselves and other faith communities about the US immigration and detention system.

We celebrate the presence of immigrants in our community and the many gifts they bring to all aspects of our shared life in community as neighbors, friends, coworkers, people of faith, students, parents, and leaders.

We join with others in calling for a fair and humane immigration system.

SISC congregations and members play a variety of roles in this work. Some provide Temporary Host Homes; others support the host homes. Some become Sanctuary Congregations. Others host educational programs. Together, we provide financial and logistical support as well as opportunities for fellowship and mutual learning.

  • Looking at the world in the light of our faith traditions, we are appalled by the current treatment of immigrants without documents in the United States. We are heartbroken by the tearing apart of families through needless detention and deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). These realities are contrary to the teachings and practice of our faith traditions, all of which call upon us to love our neighbors and welcome the stranger.

As people of faith, we believe that we are called to stand with those who are living the damaging impacts of our nation’s immigration policies.

As Americans, we believe that welcoming immigrants is fundamental to who we are as a people. We believe that immigrants enrich our country. Together we can forge out of our diversity and shared humanity a sense of a common purpose. This is our strength and the very fabric of who we are.
